Nokia N97 Review


Nokia’s latest edition to the popular N-series range has finally arrived in the shape of the N97. The Nokia N97 weighs 150g and comes in at 16mm thick, with the size dimensions 55.3mm x 117.2mm.

Nokia have based the Nokia N97 on an internet mobile phone, with a touch screen display and a tilting QWERTY key bored. There is an impressive 3.5 inch display screen so you get the best possible use of email and internet. You can stay connected to the internet or social networking sites using the ‘always open’ screen.

Nokia have also introduced a new concept to the N97 called ‘social location’, it uses A GPS and built-in compass, updating social networking sites with real time data.

Nokia have produced the biggest LCD screen so far for a mobile phone so you won’t have to scroll side to side when browsing the internet. Producing documents and typing emails is much easier with the QWERTY keyboard too.

Storing photo’s, music and documents will be easy as the Nokia N97 has 32 Gbytes of memory built in and the option to add another 16 Gbytes with a MicroSD™ memory card.

There is an impressive camera on the N97 too, at 5 Mega-pixels. It also has Carl Zeiss optics, auto focus, 20x digital zoom and a duel LED flash, so very similar to the Nokia N96.

The N97 video recorder has DVD quality at 30FPS and with a range of formats including PNG, SVG, BMP, MBM, JPEG and JPEG2000/JP2. There is also built-in software allowing you to edit any footage to make it look professional . The Nokia N97 handset also has an additional camera for the user to make video calls.

Staying in contact with family, friends and work is easy with many messaging options available, including, SMS, MMS, Instant messaging and Email with IMAP4, SMTP and POP3 formats and you can also send and receive email with attachments.

Nokia have made connectivity easy with Bluetooth®, WiFi, miniUSB port and EDGE technology for fast data transfers. Internet connection is also very good on the N97 with HTML, XHTML and WAP browsers. You can use the Nokia N97 mobile phone abroad too with Quad-band GSM 1900/1800/900/850 networks and WCDMA 2100/1900/900 technology.

Listening to the N97 music player is a great experience as it supports MP3, AAC, eAAC+ , eAAC and WMA formats. There is also a RDS FM radio and the option to have your favourite song as your ringtone in MP3 or Polyphonic.

If you like playing the games on your mobile phone the Nokia N97 has Java™, Built-in games, downloadable games and N Gage gaming.

The personal organiser is filled with some great functions, including GPS Navigation, A GPS receiver Nokia maps, document viewer to name a few. It also has the usual, phonebook, calculator, clock plus more.

So what is the battery life like on the Nokia N97 well you get 5.3 hrs of 3G talk time, 6.6 hrs of GSM talk time, 6.6 hrs 3G standby time and 7.1 hrs of GSM standby time.
